Scholarship Description:

Prof. Xiaoyu Tang’s group in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Northeastern University has fully funded PhD and postdoc positions in Fluid Mechanics and Soft Matter. The selected postdoc candidate is expected to start immediately, while PhD candidates should begin in Spring or Fall 2025. Visiting students and scholars are also welcome.

Prof. Tang earned her PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University and her Bachelor’s in Thermal Engineering from Tsinghua University. She completed postdoctoral research in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara.  Available Subjects:

Multiphase flow, microfluidics, and active colloidal systems with broad applications in energy, environment, and healthcare.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Postdoc Position: Individuals with a PhD in any science or engineering field, especially Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Physics, are encouraged to apply. Self-motivated candidates with an experimental background, particularly in microfluidics, are especially welcome. The selected candidate will develop their own project while mentoring student projects. Successful publication is expected.
  • PhD Position: Students with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any science or engineering field, particularly Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Physics, are encouraged to apply. Self-motivated candidates with a strong foundational knowledge are preferred. Research experience in either experimentation or simulation, as well as publications, are advantageous but not required.
