Scholarship Description:
Dr. Ren Wang’s research focuses on trustworthy AI, collective machine intelligence, and AI for engineering/biomedical applications. His work has been published in top journals and conferences in AI, machine learning, signal processing, and smart grids. He has received multiple NSF grants and the 2023 ORAU Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award.
Dr. Wang is a faculty member and executive committee member of the Institute for Data, Econometrics, Algorithms, and Learning (IDEAL) and coordinates industrial collaborations. His lab collaborates closely with leading AI labs, national labs, and universities in the U.S.
He organizes several conferences and workshops, including the Midwest ML Symposium, IEEE MASS, and workshops on privacy and interpretability in generative AI, as well as trustworthiness in machine learning. He also serves on program committees for major AI conferences.

The Trustworthy and Intelligent Machine Learning lab focuses on developing next-generation intelligent machine learning systems centered on trustworthiness. The research encompasses two key themes: trustworthy machine learning, addressing robustness, interpretability, transparency, scalability, privacy, and security; and intelligent machine learning engineering, which emphasizes reliable and efficient development of engineering methods, tools, and practices. The lab’s work is expected to impact various fields, including machine learning, computer vision, power systems, healthcare, and education.
