Scholarship Description:

Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), established in 2010, is a public research university located in Education City, Doha, Qatar, under the Qatar Foundation. It began admitting students in 2014 and is named after Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The university has rapidly developed, ranking 183rd in the QS World Rankings in 2025. It focuses on fields such as electronics, information technology, life sciences, sustainable development, Islamic studies, Islamic finance, Middle Eastern studies, translation studies, and law. HBKU has six colleges and three national research institutes: the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute, the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute, and the Qatar Computer Research Institute, as well as an innovation incubator. The university currently has over 1,200 master’s and doctoral students from about 60 countries, more than 300 full-time researchers (including research scientists and postdocs), and around 150 faculty members. The College of Science and Engineering is led by Professor Mounir Hamdi, former head of the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, focusing on engineering solutions to global challenges.

Dr. Bo Wang received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2010 (Outstanding Graduate and Honors Graduate of the ZJU Zhucan College). He obtained his Master’s and PhD degrees from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2012 and 2015, respectively. He joined HBKU’s College of Science and Engineering as an assistant professor in 2017 and was promoted to tenured associate professor in 2023. He is a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Sensors and Systems and an associate editor of the IEEE Sensors Journal. His research focuses on energy-efficient CMOS sensors and sensor interfaces, CMOS image sensors, digital-to-analog converters, and high-efficiency precision circuits.
