Scholarship Description:

Dr. Ke Yuan will join the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University as an Assistant Professor/Independent PI in Fall 2025. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Engineering Mechanics from Zhengzhou University and his master’s degree in Structural Engineering from Hunan University. He will complete his PhD at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in December 2024 and undergo postdoctoral training at UMBC from January to July 2025.

Dr. Yuan has published 23 academic papers as the first or corresponding author, including in top journals such as Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, and Journal of Sound and Vibration, as well as at flagship conferences organized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM). He holds one issued US patent and has four pending US patents. His research has received funding from the NSF and several Maryland state grants, garnering significant attention from both academia and industry. He has won the ASME Noise Control & Acoustics Division Best Student Paper Award and has received the SEM Computer Vision and Laser Vibrometry Division Best Paper Award four consecutive times (2022-2025).

Eligibility criteria:

  • Highly motivated and proactive in research.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, robotics, civil engineering, electrical engineering, or related fields; preference for candidates with experience in signal processing, ROS, and structural health monitoring.
  • Good English writing skills; preference for those with experience publishing SCI papers.
  • Strong practical and hands-on abilities.
