Scholarship Description:

Dr. Liu earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from University of Science and Technology of China in 2008. After receiving her PhD from Indiana University in 2014, Dr. Liu completed postdoctoral training in cardiac and vascular biology at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with Dr. Li Qian and Dr. Victoria Bautch. She has published over twenty research articles on prestigious journals like Nature, Cell Stem Cell, Circulation Research, Angiogenesis, ATVB, etc. Dr. Liu developed strong interests in heart regeneration, angiogenesis, and OMICS approaches during her postdoc training. In October 2022, Dr. Liu joined MCW to start her own lab. She hopes that decades into the future, findings from the Liu lab about cardiovascular regeneration will help repair a failing heart.

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is a private medical school, pharmacy school, and graduate school of sciences in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. MCW is the second-largest research center in Wisconsin. MCW invests over $300 million in research, teaching, training and related purposes yearly. In 2020, MCW ranked in the top third of all US medical schools in NIH research support. Milwaukee is the most populous city in Wisconsin with a population of 1.57 million in the Milwaukee metropolitan area. It is 2 hours away by driving from Chicago and has a diverse population and culture.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants with background in cardiovascular biology, Omics, iPSC & organoid, or nanoparticle approaches are preferred.
