Scholarship Description:

Dr. Bingchen Yu graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Shandong University in 2014 and earned a PhD in Organic Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry from Georgia State University in 2018. Since 2019, he has conducted postdoctoral research at Georgia State University and the University of California, San Francisco. In 2023, he joined the Department of Chemistry at Georgia State University as an Assistant Professor.

To date, Dr. Yu has published 40 papers as first or co-author in high-impact journals, including Nature Chemistry, Chem, JACS, Angewandte Chemie, and Chemical Science, with nearly 2,000 citations, demonstrating his significant contributions to medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, and protein therapeutics.

Research Areas

  1. Covalent Cross-linking of Proteins: Utilizing expanded codon technology and proximity-triggered mechanisms to study protein-protein, protein-carbohydrate, and protein-RNA interactions.
  2. Small Molecule Probes: Designing and optimizing small molecule probes to explore and elucidate the structural and functional relationships of protein-protein interactions.
  3. Medicinal Chemistry: Development of covalent antiviral drugs and ion channel activators.
  4. High-throughput Drug Screening Platforms: Designing and developing innovative drug screening platforms.

His lab’s research is highly interdisciplinary, integrating organic chemistry, molecular biology, and computational science.
