Scholarship Description:

Dr. Qing Zhao graduated in 2012 from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Purdue University with dual bachelor’s degrees. In 2018, she earned a dual PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Computational Science and Engineering from MIT, under Professor Heather Kulik. She then conducted postdoctoral research with Professor Emily Carter at Princeton University, a member of both the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering. In January 2022, she joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University as an assistant professor. Her research focuses on first-principles calculations, surface catalysis, and electrocatalysis. In 2024, Zhao received the NSF CAREER Award and the ACS Petroleum Research Fund Doctoral New Investigator Award.

 Available Subjects:

Mainly engaged in exploring the application of catalysts in the renewable energy field using quantum mechanics-based first-principles methods.

Eligibility criteria:

  • 1) developing and applying multireference wavefunction methods or
  • 2) developing and applying machine learning-assisted molecular dynamics simulations.
