Scholarship Description:

Dr. Deqiang Li’s lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms of cardiovascular development, disease, and regeneration. The lab is dedicated to identifying epigenetic regulations and new signaling pathways that modulate cardiac development or control cardiac cell differentiation and maturation, using both in vitro and in vivo approaches. Specific research projects utilize cell and mouse model systems, including induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and conditional gene knockout techniques.

The lab employs cutting-edge biomedical technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, AAV, single-cell RNA sequencing, ChIP-Seq, confocal microscopy, multi-color flow cytometry, surgical disease model construction, ultrasound, and telemetry for measuring cardiovascular function in mice.

Dr. Li is very supportive of his trainees’ academic and career development. His first postdoc, Dr. Jihyun Jang, who joined the lab in the summer of 2018, secured her first NIH R01 grant independently in 2025 and has established her own lab.
