Scholarship Description:
Dr. Yatao Bian (https://yataobian.com) will join the School of Computing at the National University of Singapore (NUS) as a tenure-track assistant professor, PhD advisor, and independent PI in Fall 2025. He has ample startup funding, computational resources, and fully funded student positions available (supporting over 10 fully funded PhD students, with additional funding for subsequent years).
Currently, he is recruiting postdocs, PhD students, research assistants, visiting students (including CSC), and interns. His research focuses on expanding the capabilities of AI in scientific intelligence, driving breakthroughs in AI technology to address critical open problems in science and society. Key research areas include AI4SCI (currently focusing on molecular/material science), Graph Machine Learning, and AI reliability issues.

He has supervised multiple master’s thesis projects at ETH Zurich and internship projects at Tencent AI Lab, successfully recommending several interns for fully funded PhD programs at prestigious universities in Europe and the U.S.

Eligibility criteria:
- Students from diverse backgrounds (Computer Science, theoretical or empirical science) are welcome to apply, with excellent academic performance.
- A solid programming foundation is required, with familiarity in mainstream deep learning frameworks like PyTorch. ACM/ICPC or NOI/IOI award winners are preferred.
- Some research experience and practical background in machine learning or AI4SCI are necessary. Candidates with cutting-edge research experience (e.g., GNNs, Transformer-based models, diffusion models) are preferred, especially those with relevant publications.
- Good English reading, writing, and oral communication skills are essential. PhD admission English requirements are approximately TOEFL ≥ 90 or IELTS ≥ 6.5 (for exceptionally outstanding applicants, these requirements may be relaxed).
- Strong self-motivation and passion for research are essential.
