The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine is inviting applications for fully funded PhD and postdoctoral positions

Scholarship: Fully-funded
Degree: Bachelor, Master, Ph.D
Nationality: International Students
Location: USA
Application deadlines: Open

Scholarship Description:

Dr. Liang Jiang is a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and a PhD supervisor. She graduated from Tsinghua University with a degree in chemical biology and earned her PhD at the Stowers Institute, followed by a postdoc at Stanford University. Her lab, located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, focuses on multi-omics in pregnancy, particularly metabolomics and translational research in maternal and infant health.

The lab is part of the MCW Department of Obstetrics and Biochemistry, with ample funding and resources, including independent mass spectrometry, cell culture facilities, animal housing, molecular labs, and biobanks for blood, placenta, and cancer tissues, aimed at translating basic science into clinical applications. Funding for this position is not reliant on NIH grants.

The research team investigates the metabolic and molecular mechanisms of pregnancy complications, such as preeclampsia and preterm birth, using metabolomics (HPLC-MS) and machine learning, and has made significant strides in studying the pregnancy metabolic clock (Liang et al., Cell, 2020). Currently, the lab is developing biomarkers and studying molecular mechanisms related to pregnancy complications.

We warmly welcome scholars worldwide interested in maternal multi-omics and infant health research to join us in advancing scientific progress and improving global maternal and infant health!

Available Subjects:

  • Discovery and validation of biomarkers based on multi-omics, including metabolomics.
  • Application of machine learning in omics data analysis.
  • Study of metabolic and cellular molecular mechanisms in pregnancy complications.

Eligibility criteria:

  • PhD in biochemistry, metabolomics, bioinformatics, cell molecular biology, developmental biology, or a related field.
  • Preference for candidates with experience in metabolomics techniques and bioinformatics.
  • Experience in pregnancy or maternal-infant health research is a plus, but not required.
  • Strong research record; postdoctoral applicants should have experience publishing SCI papers as the first author.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
