Application deadlines: Open
Scholarship Description:
Dr Shuyi Xie is looking for enthusiastic PhD students to join our dynamic research team. Our research group focuses on cutting-edge design and understanding of advanced polymer materials that pave the way for a greener and more sustainable future. Our research is at the interface of chemistry, physics, materials and chemical engineering.
Qualified candidates will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources, as well as opportunities to present their work at leading conferences (e.g. APS and AIChE). The students’ tuition fees, benefits and stipend will be fully funded by the Department of Chemical Engineering (CHEN) and the Xie Research Group. Students will work closely with Dr. Xie on polymer synthesis, characterisation and processing.
Dr Shuyi Xie is an Assistant Professor in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University. Prior to joining CHEN at TAMU, he was a postdoctoral fellow working with Prof. Rachel Segalman at the University of California Santa Barbara in the Materials Research Laboratory. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Minnesota under the supervision of Prof. Timothy Lodge. During his Ph.D. studies, Shuyi was supported by a Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship and was a finalist in the Frank J. Padden Jr. Award Symposium at the 2020 Annual Meeting of the American Physical Society.
The Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University has faculty engaged in a wide range of research in biomass utilization, process safety, process systems engineering, hydrocarbon processing, nanotechnology, polymer and materials engineering, biomolecular engineering, and molecular simulation. The ultimate goals of our research activities are to positively impact society by providing new knowledge and to train students to become independent researchers who will continue to advance the frontiers of science and technology in their careers. CHEN is consistently recognised as one of the top graduate programmes in chemical engineering and is ranked 14th among public institutions in the US (Source: U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Graduate Schools 2024” rankings).
