Scholarship Description:

The Laboratory of Biocolloids and Biointerfaces (LBBI) in the College of Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa is seeking Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows for the autumn of 2024. Full stipends, benefits, and tuition waivers are available for graduate students.

The Laboratory of Biocolloids and Biointerfaces is dedicated to the biophysical study of biofilms, thermodynamics, physical chemistry of self-assembly and nanotechnology, and the development of advanced surface tension and contact angle measurement techniques, atomic force microscopy. Former team members have all published multiple first author papers (ACS Nano, EST, AC, Biophysical J, JCIS, etc.) and all PhD students and postdocs have successfully transitioned into academic positions.

The University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) was founded in 1907 and is the flagship campus of the University of Hawaii System; UHM is classified as “R1: University with Very High Doctoral Research Activity”. Honolulu is a four-season city that has been ranked for many years as one of the most livable, safe and diverse cities in the United States.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Self-driven, interested in research, conscientious and responsible, with some hands-on lab skills.
  • Relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s degree majors: Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Science, Physics, etc. Students with interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary backgrounds are also welcome to apply.
