Scholarship Description:

Dr Jian Zeng’s group at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) is recruiting a number of full scholarship PhD students. Dr Jian Zeng will join the Functional Hub Sustainable Energy and Environment Area at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) as Assistant Professor (PhD Supervisor) in October 2023. Dr Zeng’s research interests are in the areas of light thermal energy conversion, transfer, storage and regulation technologies, and the development of solar thermal driven efficient carbon capture, water treatment and desalination and renewable fuel conversion technologies by exploring thermal mass transport mechanisms at different scales; thermal management technologies for energy efficient buildings/power electronics/wearable devices; and high temperature and extreme environment thermal measurement technologies for new energy systems.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Hold (but not limited to) a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Energy Power, Chemical, Materials, Environmental and Physics, or be about to graduate.
  • Excellent studies and some research experience, with publication experience preferred. Applicants with a background in heat and mass transfer and thermal measurements are particularly welcome.
  • Passion for research, good professional qualities and strong initiative
  • English language requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English, or who have not obtained a degree in an English language of instruction, must meet one of the following requirements: TOEFL iBT total score of 80 or above on one attempt; TOEFL pBT score of 550 or above; new TOEFL revised TOEFL® Paper-delivered Test score of 60 or above; IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 6.5 or above (with a minimum of 5.5 in each sub-score); 105 or above in a multi-neighbouring country
